When you ask an assistant to evaluate one option, it tends to evaluate that option kindly. Asking it to compare options forces it to find real trade-offs.

How to do it

  • Name at least two options. “Postgres JSONB or a separate table?” beats “Is JSONB OK here?”
  • Ask for the strongest case for each, then for when each one would be the wrong choice.
  • Make it pick, with reasons tied to your constraints: team size, traffic, deadlines.
We're choosing between A) JSONB columns and B) a separate settings table.
Make the strongest case for each. Then tell me when each would be a
mistake. Finally, pick one for a 3-person team expecting 10k users,
and explain the deciding factor.

If both sides sound equally convincing, that’s useful too: it means the decision is cheap to reverse, so pick one and move on.
